{"id":221,"date":"2014-02-05T15:00:00","date_gmt":"2014-02-05T15:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/teamsters931.org\/?p=221"},"modified":"2020-06-10T15:01:16","modified_gmt":"2020-06-10T15:01:16","slug":"armored-transport-teamsters-already-at-work-to-improve-worker-and-public-safety","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/teamsters931.ca\/en\/2014\/02\/05\/armored-transport-teamsters-already-at-work-to-improve-worker-and-public-safety\/","title":{"rendered":"Armored transport: Teamsters already at work to improve worker and public safety"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Laval, February 4, 2013 \u2013 The Teamsters are already in talks with all the stakeholders in order to improve worker safety and training in the armored transport industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The robbery of G4S trucks in Longueuil and Toronto has highlighted the need for companies offering valued goods transportation to revisit certain operating procedures and decisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re well aware of the psychological impact these robberies have on our 1,000 Canadian members who work in this industry,\u201d said Teamsters Canada\u2019s Communications Director, St\u00e9phane Lacroix. \u201cWe\u2019re also worried about the public\u2019s safety.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For this reason, the Teamsters have already started discussions with the Minister of Public Safety, Steven Blaney as well as armored transport firms. In fact, Teamsters Canada is the only union to sit down at the same table with both employers and the government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe appreciate the support of our fellow unions, but we don\u2019t think that ranting and raving in public is going to further our cause,\u201d added Lacroix. \u201cWe feel that negotiations are a better way to solve the problems.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lacroix goes on to say that \u201cHaving teams of two in the truck is just one of many issues we plan to resolve very shortly.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moreover, Garda\u2019s acquisition of G4S doesn\u2019t change anything for the 400 Qu\u00e9bec workers represented by the Teamsters Union. The collective agreement negotiated by the parties remains in effect and the members will be informed of any changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The Teamsters represents 115,000 members in Canada in all trades.
