{"id":210,"date":"2012-11-17T14:55:56","date_gmt":"2012-11-17T14:55:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/teamsters931.org\/?p=210"},"modified":"2020-06-10T14:56:44","modified_gmt":"2020-06-10T14:56:44","slug":"sleeman-unibroue-workers-choose-teamsters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/teamsters931.ca\/en\/2012\/11\/17\/sleeman-unibroue-workers-choose-teamsters\/","title":{"rendered":"Sleeman-Unibroue workers choose Teamsters"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"274\" src=\"http:\/\/teamsters931.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Sleeman-Unibroue-20121117.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-208\" srcset=\"https:\/\/teamsters931.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Sleeman-Unibroue-20121117.jpg 500w, https:\/\/teamsters931.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Sleeman-Unibroue-20121117-300x164.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Laval, November 16, 2012 \u2013 Dissatisfied with the service provided by the CNTU (CSN), approximately 120 workers employed by Sleeman-Unibroue Brewery have decided to join the Teamsters Union.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The raiding campaign that began in September ended yesterday when the Labour Relations Board approved the certification request filed by Teamsters Union Local 931.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re honoured that these workers chose us,\u201d said Gerry Boutin, the president of Teamsters Local Union 931. \u201cWe have the expertise to represent them effectively.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Collective agreement not honoured<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The brewery\u2019s workers are upset with their employer for not respecting certain provisions of the collective agreement, particularly the one regarding seniority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The president of Local Union 931 cautioned Sleeman-Unibroue\u2019s management, stating \u201cthat a collective agreement must be respected by both parties, not just the workers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Members will be asked to submit their demands in the weeks ahead in preparation of the bargaining for the next contract in 2013.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Sleeman-Unibroue plant is located on Montreal\u2019s South Shore, where it produces such beers as Fin du Monde, la Blanche de Chambly and Maudite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The Teamsters Union represents 125,000 members in Canada in all trades.
