{"id":163,"date":"2010-01-26T14:31:49","date_gmt":"2010-01-26T14:31:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/teamsters931.org\/?p=163"},"modified":"2020-06-10T14:32:29","modified_gmt":"2020-06-10T14:32:29","slug":"teamsters-to-protest-closing-of-hbc-warehouse-in-lachine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/teamsters931.ca\/en\/2010\/01\/26\/teamsters-to-protest-closing-of-hbc-warehouse-in-lachine\/","title":{"rendered":"Teamsters to Protest Closing of HBC Warehouse in Lachine"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Laval, January 26, 2010<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2014 On January 29th, members of the Teamsters Union will gather in the Borough of Lachine (Montreal) to protest the permanent closing of HBC\u2019s distribution centre, planned for mid-February.This demonstration is taking place nearly one year to the day after this same company closed its call center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt makes you wonder if The Bay isn\u2019t simply in the process of closing down all its activities in Quebec,\u201d stated Gerry Boutin, president of Teamsters Local Union 931, which represents the distribution centre workers. \u201cIt is a sad day for these people who will have to look for new jobs as of February.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>HBC management announced the bad news to its 150 workers last November 12th, invoking logistical reorganization as a reason for the closure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The distribution centre supplied The Bay and some Zeller stores in Quebec and the Maritimes. All activities will now be centralized in Toronto for eastern Canada and in Vancouver for western Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI invite municipal, provincial, and federal elected representatives to join us on January 29th,\u201d said Mr. Boutin. \u201cIn my opinion, the workers would appreciate their support during this difficult period.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What<\/strong>: Rally to support the 150 workers of The Bay\u2019s distribution centre who will lose their jobs in February.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>When<\/strong>: Friday, January 29, 2010, from noon to 1:00 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Where<\/strong>: The Bay Distribution Centre<br>2105 23rd Avenue, Lachine, QC&nbsp; H8T 1X3<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Spokespersons<\/strong>: St\u00e9phane Lacroix, Director of Communications for Teamsters Canada, and Teamsters Local Union 931 directors will be onsite to answer journalists\u2019 questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The Teamsters Union represents 125,000 members in Canada in all trades.
